Speaker's Summary:
SLAC Scientific Computing has a glorious past, present and (I hope) future. I will give my perspective on the present state of SLAC Scientific Computing and I will describe how SLAC science, SLAC's computing strengths and a certain amount of good fortune will lead to the glorious future.
About the Speaker:
Richard Mount received his BA (physics) from Oxford University, UK in 1970; PhD (high-energy physics) from Cambridge University, UK in 1975; 1975 to 1978, CERN Fellow: research in experimental high energy physics; 1978 to 1982, Postdoc at Oxford University: EMC experiment - research on muon scattering (and data handling); 1982 to 1988, Senior Research Fellow, Caltech: Mark-J experiment and L3 experiment - research on electron-positron collisions and development of computing at DESY, Hamburg and CERN, Geneva; 1988 to 1997, Senior Research Associate, Caltech: L3 experiment - research on electron-positron collisions, responsible for computing at CERN for the L3 experiment; 1997 to 2005, Director of SLAC Computing Services and Assistant Director, SLAC Research Division; Since 2005, Director of Scientific Computing and Computing Services at SLAC.
