Volume 5, Issue 17 August 23, 2001 Key InformationCode of Conduct for Business ActivitiesOne of the keystones of Stanford Universitys (and SLACs) success has been integrity in its dealings with others both inside and outside the University. As University employees, all SLAC personnel have a responsibility to act ethically in their dealings with others and in the conduct of business activities. Stanford University Guide Memo 15, Code of Conduct for Business Activities, states the Universitys longstanding policies regarding the principles which govern the Universitys business dealings. All SLAC employees should be familiar with this Guide Memo. Of particular note is the policy statement in section 5.b of Guide Memo 15 which states that in our business activities we must be careful to avoid even the appearance (emphasis added) of misconduct or impropriety. A complete copy of Guide Memo 15 is available on the web at http://adminguide.stanford.edu or in the Business Services Division Office (A&E, Room 203). Contact: Jerry Jobe, Associate Director Business Services Division, Ext. 4245, jlj@slac.stanford.edu Introducing The Lab Managers Advisory GroupIn an attempt to improve communications between the Laboratorys service providers and the operating groups that use those services, I have formed a new advisory group. This group, which first met in late May, is called the Lab Managers Advisory Group, or L-MAG, and is comprised of volunteers from each of the operating divisions. L-MAGs purpose is to serve as a conduit between SLACs business and administrative service providers and their customers. The groups overall goal is to improve SLACs business processes by creating an avenue for the timely exchange of information and enabling a dialog between the service providers and the service users. Anyone with issues, concerns, or input on SLACs administrative processes can contact one of the advisory group members listed on the next page. The group will meet with SLACs Business Services Division service providers to discuss what processes are working well and what processes need improvement. Service providers from the other divisions are being encouraged to participate. In addition to serving as a forum for information exchange on administrative processes, the members will be asked to coordinate the review of draft business policies and procedures within their divisions and groups. The goal here is to solicit input from those who will be affected by the policy or procedure at the draft stage so that the final product will be useful to SLAC while satisfying the requirements driving it. The L-MAG is in a pilot stage and members are in the process of determining an appropriate meeting frequency, and electing a leader who will be responsible for calling meetings and representing the groups collective views at the meeting with the service providers. The current members and their contact information are:
Contact: Jerry Jobe, Associate Director Business Services Division, Ext. 4245, jlj@slac.stanford.edu New Navigant Services Fee Structure AnnouncedIn order to cover program costs, it will be necessary to increase travel agency fees charged by Navigant, Stanford's preferred travel provider. These new fees will be effective 9/01/01 and will be tiered. This tiered fee structure better reflects actual costs incurred in providing the travel service. Although an increase, we believe it is a good value for the Stanford Traveler, less than the fees charged by other agencies and other university travel programs. Beginning September 1, 2001, the following fee structure will go into effect when using Navigant's Services: Domestic agent-assisted ticket transactions: $20.00 International agent-assisted ticket transactions: $25.00 TRIP online bookings: $5.00 We are pleased to inform you that the newly upgraded Travel Web Site, TRIP will be released in the next several weeks. With global access, the site will provide increased functionality in delivering the travel service at a lower service fee of $5.00 per transaction. In keeping with our goal of aligning fees with the actual costs incurred with ticketing, we are enthusiastic about being able to offer lower TRIP fees for the Stanford traveler. If you have questions, please contact Liane Pfeiffer, Stanford's Travel Program Coordinator at 5-9102 or Sherry Murphy, Customer Service Manager at 3-9757.
