Colloquium Detail
Cosmic Journeys, To the Edge of Gravity, Space and Time
Date: 1/10/2000
Nicholas White
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Understanding the nature of gravity and its relationship to the other three forces and to quantum theory is one of the major challenges facing Physics as we begin the new century. In order to make progress, we must confront the current theories with observations of gravity in the extreme. Black holes represent one extreme, the Universe as whole the other. The speaker will outline NASA's "Cosmic Journeys" program which is designed to observe these extremes of gravity throughout the universe.
