In Search of Archimedes

Date: 11/6/2000

Reviel Netz
Professor on Classics, Stanford Univ.

The Archimedes Palimpsest is the most ancient document for the science of Archimedes. During the last century it was discovered, lost and rediscovered, providing us with a tantalizing mystery. Even a greater mystery, however, is this: can the palimpsest finally be fully read? And what can it tell us about Archimedes' own mind, and about the development of science? Scholars are now looking for clues for all those mysteries and, in this talk, the clues are to be disclosed.
