Colloquium Detail
The History of the Muon g-2 Experiment
Date: 12/3/2001
Francis Farley
Professor, Observatoire, Nice Univ.
In their first paper on muon precession Garwin, Lederman and Weinrich commented on the absence of visible g-2 precision. We follow the development since then, three experiments at CERN and the recent BNL measurement to 1.3 ppm disagreeing with theory by 2.6 standard deviations. A short video made at CERN by the Swiss cineaste Guido Franco will be included.
