ITER
ITER, from the latin word "the way" is a synonym for one of the largest construction projects for science and technology ever undertaken. The goal is to demonstrate thermonuclear fusion with a power amplfication of more then a factor of ten as well as extended operation of the plasma creating 500 MW of fusion power or more. ITER will also demonstrate the technological readiness to move into industrial style fusion power plant construction. The ITER Organization (IO) is an international organization existing as a legal entity since October 2007. ITER is funded by seven parties including China, EURATOM, India, Japan, Korea, Russian Federation and the United States who aim at finishing the construction of ITER within the next 10 years with more than 80% of the components being build and delivered "in kind". The presentation will go through the history of ITER, its present status and its challenges which range from technical to management.
