When Galileo observed the phases of Venus with a telescope at the end of 1610, he provided a clear experimental evidence against the Ptolemaic model of the Solar system. This was the first time in history that a debate between two "World Systems" could be resolved with experimental data, signaling an important transition in the way we understand nature. The observations of Galileo were the results of the cultural exchanges that occurred during the Renaissance and opened the way to modern science and modern society.
