Treo650 Exchange ActiveSync Admin Guide

Prerequisites

Install the SIM and get the phone fully charged.

Set Up VersaMail and ActiveSync on a Windows Computer

 

The following should be done from the computer belonging to the Treo650 phone you are configuring.

 

1. Insert the Software Installation CD which came with the phone. Press Next to install the software on your computer. Follow all prompts to complete the software installation. It will need to restart your computer.  
2. After the restart of your computer and a short delay the installation will continue on to Synchronize your Device and Computer step. You want to enable the synchronization to Microsoft Outlook. 
   
    
   
3. Connect the USB cable between the computer and the phone.  
   
    
   
4. Wait after connecting USB for first Hotsync to pop up and complete. The phone will say to press Reset.
5. You will need to register the phone now. Use the MSN # on the box if the serial number is not found on the back of the phone.
6. You probably won't need to install any of the Additional Software so you can skip this step.
7. We need to set up the E-mail on the phone now.
8. On the Windows desktop, select Start > Programs > palmOne > VersaMail Setup.
9. Select the appropriate username format from the drop-down list at the top of the screen, and then select the option to create a new VersaMail email account. Click Next.
   
    
   
10. Select the option to synchronize the device with a mail service from this list, and then select Exchange ActiveSync. Click Next.
    
     
    
11. You'll get the warning below but you can press Yes.
    
     
    
12. Enter the basic account information:
    1. Enter a descriptive name for the account. (e.g. SLAC Exchange).
    2. Enter the account username and password.
    3. Enter the email address for this account.
    4. Click Next.
    
    
     
    
13. Enter the server information:
    1. Exchange Server Name: www-mail.slac.stanford.edu
    2. Port Number: 443
    3. Maximum message size: Your choice
    4. Check the box in front of "This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
    5. Do not check the "Use Proxy Server" box.
    
    
     
    

14. Click the Test My Settings button. Click OK after settings have been tested.
    
     
    
15. Click Finish.
16. To synchronize the account information to the device, click the top radio button. Press Next
    
     
    
17. Press Finish on the Transfer Settings to Device screen.

Accessing VersaMail on the Treo650 Phone

Press the Applications button and you will see it as one of the available applications on the phone.
