VoIP Pilot Project
SLAC is part of a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) pilot project with LBNL, FNAL,
CERN and DESY laboratories. This means that telephone calls to these laboratories
can be made by sending digitized voice packets over the Internet. This is a purely
experimental service and no guarantees of any level of service are given. However,
if you would like to try the service, please do so and send comments (both good and bad)
via the Feedback
link. Use of the VoIP service is subject to SLAC's "appropriate
use" policy.
Instructions For Use
1) Connect to the SLAC VoIP router by calling
extension 5090 onsite, or (650) 926-5090 from offsite.
2) Wait for a Dial Tone. (Hang up and try again
later if you get a busy signal or no dial tone.)
3) Dial the "access code" to connect to the
VoIP router at the other lab, followed by the local number at that lab:
LBNL:
Dial 5 (wait for dial tone), then 4 digit LBNL extension.
FNAL:
Dial 1 (no dial tone), then 4 digit FNAL extension.
CERN:
Dial 3 (no dial tone), then 5 digit CERN extension.
Dial 41 (no dial tone), then Swiss phone number in area near CERN.
Dial 33 (no dial tone), then French phone number in area near CERN.
DESY:
Dial 8 (no dial tone), then 4 digit DESY extension.
Dial 49 (no dial tone), then German phone number in area near DESY.
SLAC:
Dial 2 (wait for dial tone), then 4 digit SLAC extension.
