SLAC Telephone Users' Guide | SLAC Phone Service Request System (SPRS)

SLAC   7 February, 2005

Introduction

By default, user phones are assigned to be able to make calls to the USA & Canada. To enable international calling access for a phone, the  relevant ATOM must submit a Feature Change Request to identify the need and request international access. International COS also requires a letter/memo/e-mail from the ATOM to authorize the capability plus an account to potentially charge calls to. The authorization for international access must be renewed each year.  SLAC employees without international calling capability on their phones can contact the Main Gate (SLAC Operator "0") to place business related calls.

Contacts

All phones at SLAC that can place international calls have a contact person. Typically this is the ATOM or group/department leader who directly or indirectly requested the phone to have international access and provided an account to potentially charge the calls to. See Guidelines for contacts of phones enabled to place International calls for more information on who the contacts are, their duties, and policies on usage etc.

Rates & Usage

SLAC International Calling Rates gives the per minute rates for international calls from SLAC to other countries.

We measure the international use by analyzing the PBX (phone switch) Call Data Records (CDR) and the electronic bills from our provider. See the presentation on SLAC's International phone call usage for more details on usage. A chart of the monthly usage is shown below. The big change in costs for the year 2000 (the blue line) was due to successfully renegotiating some very aggressive rates with our international phone call supplier.
