How to Install and Run SecureCRT

Important: In order to download Secure CRT we will need to have your SUNet ID ready, if you do not
have a SUNet ID please register for one here.

 

Click ‘Run’ after authenticating your SUNet ID then click ‘Run’ again to start the download

Once the install starts click ‘Next’

Select the location where you want to install SecureCRT and click ‘Next’ 

Click ‘Next’

 

Leave the following protocols at the default settings and click ‘Next’ 

When the installation has finished click ‘Finish’ 

After clicking the ‘Finish’ button you should get a ‘Success’ screen, if you do not see the ‘Success’
screen please retry the above steps or contact the Help Desk

 

How to run a UNIX session via SecureCRT

Click on Start -> Programs ->SecureCRT 5.5 then click the ‘SecureCRT 5.5’ icon

When the application starts please create a new session by right clicking the mouse on the ‘Sessions’
folder or clicking the third menu icon from the left

       
Right Click                                                       Select the New Session Icon

Make sure the ‘SSH 2’ Protocol is selected and click ‘Next’

Advanced Users: If you do not wish to use the Session Wizard you can check the box shown below

Fill out the ‘Hostname’ field with the name of the system want to login on (i.e. noric, flora,) Please note
that if you’re are not connected to the SLAC Network,  then you will need the FQDN
(Fully Qualified Domain Name) such as flora.slac.stanford.edu. Leave the port and firewall settings at the
default.  You can enter your username at this time, if you do not you will be prompted for the username
when you attempt to connect to the system.

IMPORTANT you may encounter the screen below during the wizard setup, please change the drop down
menu to ‘None’ and click ‘Next’

Click the ‘Finish’ button to complete the installation

Select the session name and click ‘Connect’

Login by entering your username (if it was not configured previously in section) then type your current
SLAC UNIX Password.
