This request form is used to request SCS to configure a Windows NT or Linux workstation that conforms to the recommended hardware. SCS will not configure any NT or Linux workstations other than those on the recommended hardware list (other vendors, PC clones).
This request must be submitted in consultation with your local administrator. It is not advised for users to go through these steps on their own without consulting the local administrator -- of making the purchase, and coordinating the necessary networking, software and installation requests.
Workstations will be configured with a standard hard disk setup. For NT, this consists of a single partition, formatted NTFS, with the Windows NT operating system and SLAC's set of standard software. For Linux, the Installation of Linux at SLAC is used.
Workstations will be configured about one week after the workstation hardware and this request is received by the SCS Desktop Computing Group.
Request must be submitted either in consultation with or by the local administrator.
