File Types & Application Association:

in Internet Explorer and Windows NT

07 July 2000

Also see Setting the Default Web Browser.

An example of the problem:
Internet Explorer opens .ps files with Adobe Illustrator, instead of Ghostview.

You need to change the file type association for .ps files to start the Ghostview application.

Internet Explorer uses the Windows NT file type association with an application (i.e., it is part of operating system settings we can change, unlike Netscape where it is part of the web browser application we can change).
