In PowerPoint 2000, 'File' menu -> 'Save As Web Page' -> 'Publish'

It gives you 3 choices.

Selecting 2nd option 'Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later' will generate HTML that Netscape Navigator browsers will also use.

Selecting 1st option 'Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later' will generate HTML with IE-specific tags that may not be usable by Netscape Navigator browsers.

During installation, one of the above 'save options' is configured as the default option when you use 'File' menu -> 'Save As' -> 'Web Page (*.htm, *.html)'.
