Matt Campbell discussed the new Boot CD release. Service Pack 2 will be slipstreamed into build and networking will be set during build to not respond to network traffic. Before machines are released to users, the admin will click on a desktop shortcut to enable the system to use the network normally. Matt will incorporate model requests he has received so far. Next week Matt should have the new version tested and available (10/13) so there will be a special meeting to discuss and distribute the CDs. Matt also asked for any requests for additional drivers or Dell computer models to be made immediately so he could work on incorporating them in the new build.

Teresa Downey introduced the new security page on end of support for Microsoft versions:
https://www-internal.slac.stanford.edu/comp/windows/security/reference/win-security-update.htm. The security group is working on ways to block network access for any machine which connects and is not running a current and patched operating system.

Adobe Acrobat Patches – Matt is testing the deployment of patches for acrobat versions. In the interim, admins are requested to patch Adobe versions on any machines they log into.

Acrobat Issue --  “Freeze when you start Adobe Reader or Acrobat (6.0-7.x on Windows”):
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/329444.html. Ken Zhou forwarded this link to the Adobe support site. This fixes an issue where the Acrobat reader consumes 100% of the CPU when launching. Tim Miller confirmed that the procedure on the Adobe site worked for a machine which had this problem. Harold Harvey asked if there was somewhere we had to share information like this among the admins. Aaron Bator took an action item to look into what kind of knowledgebase we can set up for this group.

Office Updates – Matt is working on updating the install source for Office 2003 Service Pack 2. This will be rolled out to the Windows Group, then the Test OU and then can be rolled out to the rest of the OUs. For users with laptops or other systems which have been installed from the Xweb, Burhan Haile shared this link to a Microsoft site which allows users to download a larger administrative package: http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2k3updt.htm

Upgrades of Linux Redhat 7.2/7.3/9 to Enterprise version – These machines have been identified as running non-Taylored versions of Red Hat and need to be upgraded. There are two interns available to help the admins with this project.
