Suspected Illegal Copyright Information Procedure
- Anyone who sees Copyrighted data, which is suspected to have been downloaded illegally, on a computer on the SLAC network must report this immediately to SLAC Computer Security.
- SLAC Computer Security will inspect the system and if it appears the Copyrighted information was downloaded illegally they will router block the system, thus disconnecting it from the rest of the SLAC network and the Internet.
- If user is in the Photon Science Directorate, SLAC Computer Security will contact PSD Human Resources. Otherwise SLAC Computer Security will contact SLAC Human Resources.
- SLAC Computer Security will inform the Primary User's Supervisor and the System Administrator of the computer (as noted in the CANDO database) of this action.
- SLAC Computer Security will await follow-up notification from whichever HR dept is involved. Depending on that conversation the next step will be taken. Either further forensics will be needed or the system will be released to be rebuilt by the department.
- BEFORE the system will be allowed back on the SLAC network:
- All SLAC passwords must be changed;
- IT MUST BE REINSTALLED, INCLUDING LOW LEVEL FORMATTING ON ALL THE HARD DRIVES IN THE SYSTEM.
- After the system has been reinstalled a follow-up scan will be performed by Security before it is fully allowed back on the SLAC Network.
