Policy Generation and Dissemination Process
Individuals developing lab-wide policy will, when
feasible, follow a collaborative process that includes:
- consultation with primary stakeholders impacted by
the policy, and
- obtaining guidance and approval from the Policy
Steering Committee (PSC) and, through the PSC, approval
from the Directorate.
All new lab-wide policy and changes to existing lab-wide
policies are reviewed and approved by the Policy Steering
Committee. The Responsible Official is responsible for
assuring successful policy dissemination, and for insuring
the policy is reviewed at least annually for currency and
relevance. Laboratory management is responsible for
implementing lab-wide policy.

Additional Information
Policy Steering Committee (PSC) is appointed by the
Director. The PSC shall:
- Review proposals for SLAC-wide policy – understand
and approve the perceived need;
- Review the audience being consulted when a policy is
requested to ensure those impacted are appropriately
engaged in policy development;
- Ensure appropriate high-level review and approval is
conducted including, when necessary, consultation with
the Legal Office and DOE;
- Give direction to the Policy Coordinator – set
priorities;
- Maintain a workable policy system – provide a
reference and enforcement point;
- Arbitrate and interpret – provide a consulting and
escalation service;
- Recommend policy to the Director – offer
ready-to-sign-and-publish policies;
- Assure compliance with policy – audit understanding,
usability, and value; and
- Provide guidance regarding supporting procedures –
advises on the “how” of policy implementation
Policy Coordinator: appointed by the Director and serves
as the PSC coordinator responsible for:
- the single point of contact for policy proposals;
- the content responsible person for the Lab-wide
Policy - Generation and Management policy;
- coordinator of administrative support for the PSC;
and
- facilitator of policy development.
