Policy Update: Transportation Department Changes

SLAC’s Transportation Department has had to change some important policies in order to bring SLAC into compliance with Federal transportation regulations.

Caltrain Shuttle Services

An outside vendor now provides shuttle service to and from the Palo Alto Caltrain station. For the schedule, see:

http://www-group.slac.stanford.edu/sem/transportation/caltrainbus.html

For the route map, see:

Heavy Loads & Hazardous Materials

SLAC cannot operate vehicles greater than 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), loaded or empty, offsite. SLAC vehicles and drivers are not DOT certified and licensed, and do not conform to DOT requirements.

SLAC will not pick-up, transport or deliver any load that is defined as a hazardous material offsite. Arrangements should be made with outside vendors to transport heavy loads or for moving hazardous materials offsite.

SLAC Busses or Bus Drivers

SLAC can no longer provide SLAC busses and/or drivers to transport groups offsite carrying more than ten people at a time due to DOT regulations. Additionally, SEM is not staffed to provide drivers for these activities either on site or offsite.

Arrangements can be made to transport groups of people by engaging outside vendors, such as the Marguerite (725-5996 or e-mail marguerite@stanford.edu), or contact the Public Affairs Office (ext. 2204) to order charter busses.

Additional Transportation Reminders for Government Vehicles

Please do not use your Government Vehicle Credit Card to:

• Fuel your vehicle with Premium fuel.

• Use full service while fueling unless you are disabled.

• Charge anything other than gas, oil, or minor repairs.

For more information, contact: Burl Skaggs (SEM, ext. 2245 or e-mail burl@slac.stanford.edu).
