Stanfords policy prohibiting sexual harassment in the workplace has been
revised, effective September 1, 2002. Under the new policy, any employee
in a position of authority over another employee (or student) with whom
the employee is involved in a sexual or romantic relationship may not
supervisor or evaluate that employee or student.
The supervisor/teacher is required to:
(1) disclose the relationship and
(2) disqualify him/herself from the supervisory or
evaluative role.
Supervisors/teachers at SLAC who are involved in such
relationships must notify the Manager of Employee Relations so that
management can make other arrangements for the supervision or evaluation
of the employee/student. Failure to comply with these notification and
disqualification requirements is a violation of policy and, therefore,
grounds for discipline.
