  • Session II training, Feb. 5, 2014, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Kavli Auditorium

As a reminder, please find a brief description of volunteer roles below:

Moderator: Moderators control each match in the competition. Knowledge of game rules and vocal clarity are essential to this responsibility. This role requires the introduction of officials, the reading of important rules, and delivery of competition questions. Watch Moderator-Judge Video

Scientific Judge: At Science Bowl we have scientific judges and rules judges. Scientific judges are primarily responsible for resolving question challenges and ensuring that questions are read properly by the moderator. Rules judges make certain all competition rules are followed – they watch for scorekeeper errors and ensure that quiet is maintained throughout play duration. Watch Moderator-Judge Video linked above.

Scorekeeper: Scorekeepers accurately award points and record the competition score. At the end of each game, final scores are announced and the scoreboard is signed. Watch Scorekeeper Training Video

Timekeeper: Timekeepers operate the official competition time clock. Time is closely watched throughout play – attentiveness and knowledge of game rules are essential to this role. Watch Timekeeper Training Video

Score Runner: Score Runner picks up scores from matches and takes to scoring area by Command Central
