Game Highlights
Research dominated on offense and scored early to build a solid lead that
Accelerator could not overcome. Four of the first five Research hitters
got hits and went on to score as Research built a 4-0 lead in the first
inning. James Budarz and Ryan MacLellan provided most of the Research
offense. James had a single, double and triple in the first 4 innings
and nearly hit for the cycle with a deep blast to left field in the top of the
8th inning. But Gene Anzalone ably fielded the ball, made a good throw
to his son Brian at short stop, and Brian fired a strike to Kenta Suzuki at
home plate for the out as James raced in just a step too late. Brian
starred defensively for Accelerator with 6 put-outs/assists, including a
diving play to field a ground ball in the 5th inning with a terrific throw to
first for the out. The 3rd
member of the Anazalone family, Mark, had the only home run for Accelerator,
but it resulted in just one run as Mark was the leadoff batter off in the
bottom of the 7th
inning.
Bill Kirk MVP Award
Ryan
MacLellan was awarded MVP. Ryan had a 3-run homer in the 4th inning, had
4 hits and contributed 7 RBIs!
Game Notes
Lots of family members and friends enjoyed a warm, sunny day to cheer on both
teams.
Newcomers Kenta Suzuki, visiting from Japan, and Anton
Lindahl, newly arrived from Sweden, played softball for the first time.
Kenta got a hit and made a thrilling put-out to deny James Budarz a home run.
Anton reached base twice and deftly applied his skills from the Swedish
version of baseball (no pitcher - you toss the ball up to yourself to hit!).
Laurel Woods was official scorekeeper - thanks Laurel!.
